BROOKLYN, NY, January 4, 2018: Today, Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams encouraged City agencies, local schools, and non-profit organizations to apply for capital funding from his office for Fiscal Year 2019 (FY19). In FY18, Borough President Adams received a total capital allocation of $107,277,000, which he distributed to 245 budget investments across all 18 community districts in Brooklyn. Highlights of last year’s achievements include: $53 million toward schools focused on STEAM [science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics] education and technology initiatives; $10.5 million toward affordable housing construction and preservation, including public housing improvements; $7.8 million toward Brooklyn’s cultural institutions and libraries; $7.7 million toward parks; $6.5 toward health care and social service organizations; $1.7 million toward economic development, as well as $1 million toward participatory budgeting projects approved by voters. Borough President Adams spoke about his commitment to making Brooklyn a better place to live, work, and raise a family, and how his capital funding in the upcoming fiscal year will reflect the priorities of healthy living, workforce development, and boroughwide equity.
“I look forward to reviewing forward-thinking capital proposals that help Brooklynites enjoy living in a borough with lives that are full and fulfilled,” said Borough President Adams. “I take the responsibility of investing taxpayer dollars seriously, especially because I have seen the power that transformational projects can have on the trajectory of our borough. Not only are our capital investments building a future inclusive of every Brooklynite, with safe communities where we raise healthy children and families, they are charting a new and innovative course for urban planning.”
All requests for capital funding from the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President must be submitted via Borough President Adams’ online capital funding application, which can be found on his website, brooklyn-usa.org; the FY19 application process opened on Friday, December 22nd, and the deadline to submit a request is 11:59 PM on Monday, February 12th. Those applying for capital funding for a non-City project must also complete the requisite capital application from either the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) or New York City Office of Management and Budget (OMB); the deadline to submit those applications is 5:00 PM on Tuesday, February 20th. Projects are generally considered non-City projects if the applicant is a not-for-profit organization. Those with questions regarding the need to submit a non-City project application should review the Guidelines for Capital Funding Requests summary, accessible by visiting the City’s website, nyc.gov.
