BROOKLYN, NY, May 7, 2014: Yesterday, Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams joined his staff volunteering at the Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger, part of a Day of Service he organized for Borough Hall in keeping with a campaign promise on advancing volunteerism as well as in the hopes of inspiring others to serve. In recognition of the fiftieth anniversary of the “war on poverty” declared by President Lyndon B. Johnson, over half of his office will be giving their time to support projects related to hunger and the disadvantaged.
“I hope our first Day of Service can begin to spark a flame of volunteerism that will ignite across our borough,” said Borough President Adams. “Brooklyn is fortunate to have so many people with a wide variety of skills and gifts, yet we also have so many unfortunate among us that need a helping hand. It is my mission to connect the fortunate with the unfortunate; that is the spirit of One Brooklyn.”
At the Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger, Borough President Adams thanked volunteers for their efforts, working in the garden as well as stocking and assisting customers in the food pantry; other sites where his staff volunteered included Masbia in Midwood and Love Fellowship Tabernacle in East New York.
