“I mourn the loss of Sergeant Roshain Euvince Brooks, a 30-year-old Canarsie native, who was a courageous paratrooper in the prestigious 82nd Airborne Division. He heroically served our country while battling Islamic State in northern Iraq, but tragically lost his life in that fight on Sunday.
“Service and sacrifice while in uniform is our country’s greatest calling. I am proud to know that Sergeant Brooks has been posthumously awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Badge, Meritorious Service Medal, and Purple Heart for his commitment to keeping our nation safe and for advancing our freedom through his sacrifice.
“On behalf of 2.6 million Brooklynites, I send my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Sergeant Brooks. May they find peace and comfort during this difficult time. Brooklyn will honor his legacy for generations to come.”
