“I am pleased to see the New York City Council take swift, bold action on the passage of the municipal ID card program, and I thank Speaker Melissa Mark Viverito and Council Members Daniel Dromm and Carlos Menchaca for their strong leadership on this issue. New York City has set a new benchmark today for fair and compassionate treatment of our immigrant brothers and sisters, the backbone of our society. Countless numbers of Brooklynites who are living in the shadows can now access basic services, from which they were previously barred, thus opening up civic life to every one of our residents. As Mayor de Blasio and his administration implement this effort, I reiterate my call to make Brooklyn Borough Hall, the center of civic life in Brooklyn, as a processing center site for this program.”
