“I applaud Mayor Bill de Blasio and UFT President Michael Mulgrew for reaching a landmark accord that will benefit our teachers, school administrators, students, parents and taxpayers for years to come. This nine-year contract will hopefully chart the course for smooth sailing through the many labor negotiations to come for our City.
“This agreement reflects the new three R’s of labor negotiations in New York City: respect, reform and responsibility. There will be greater respect for the contributions made by our top teachers through quality efforts to reward and retain them. Our school system will see true reform from the creation of public schools for innovation and the encouragement of a greater parental voice in our children’s education. Additionally, we will exercise greater responsibility in regard to our health care spending as well as over teachers who have behaved inappropriately.
“I look forward to my continued work in partnership with Brooklyn’s great teachers in our shared mission to ensure a high-quality education for every young Brooklynite.”
