“Speaker Mark-Viverito made an informed decision in negotiating with NYPD Commissioner Bratton to avoid delays resulting from court challenges to interfere with the important policy changes rooted in the Right to Know Act. It furthers the work that this City Council has done to advance policing in our city, including low-level summons reform. Additionally, the reforms that are slated for the patrol guide have been accomplished while keeping the legislation on the table. This is a move in the right direction, one from which those of us seeking meaningful reform should see meaningful results. We can and must continue to prioritize public safety as the foundation of our future, while emphasizing equality and justice for every New Yorker. This is what I have fought for my entire career.”
