“This afternoon, I met with Mayor de Blasio and other elected leaders for a presentation of his executive budget for the upcoming fiscal year as well as the Ten Year Capital Strategy, and I feel initially optimistic based on the progressive vision that the Mayor has laid out. These two proposals will have a significant impact on Brooklyn and New York City, shaping our shared future. It is critical that our spending and saving priorities reflect the realities of everyday New Yorkers, especially those whose voices have been marginalized or muted in the halls of government. I look forward to reviewing this budget in greater detail in the coming days and offering more concrete recommendations regarding areas of focus for our various agencies, particularly in the areas of public safety, affordable housing, job creation, and STEM education.”
