“L’shanah tovah u’metukah. Let me be one of the first to offer my wishes for a happy, healthy, and sweet new year to all of our borough’s families preparing to observe the Jewish High Holidays. Brooklyn is truly the Jerusalem of America, a city where we celebrate our diversity and find common bonds within our various traditions and creeds. As this spiritual journey commences from Rosh Hashanah, the start of the year 5778 on the Hebrew calendar, to Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year, I join one of the world’s largest Jewish communities in praying for peace and prosperity, both here and abroad. May we all be written and sealed into the Book of Life in the year to come.”
