BROOKLYN, NY, January 21, 2015: Today, Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams formally opened the application process for capital funding from his office for Fiscal Year 2016. In Fiscal Year 2015, Borough President Adams received a total capital allocation of $15,800,000, which he distributed to 58 budget investments across seventeen community districts in Brooklyn. Highlights of last year’s achievements included a ten percent proportional increase in funding for parks, compared to Fiscal Year 2014, as well as seven percent proportional increase in funding for libraries and cultural institutions, and a six percent proportional increase in funding for affordable housing. Borough President Adams emphasized how he plans to use this upcoming fiscal year’s capital budget as a tool to advance equity and opportunity boroughwide.
“I am excited to open up my office’s FY 2016 capital budget application process, and I look forward to meeting with organizations that share my commitment to making Brooklyn a great place to live, work and raise a family,” said Borough President Adams. “Brooklynites expect their tax dollars to be used in a way that advances their quality of life, from improving schools to enhancing open space, and I plan to have their interests as my focus in allocating these resources they have entrusted to me.”
All requests for capital funding from the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President must be submitted via Borough President Adams’ online capital funding application, which can be found on his website, www.brooklyn-usa.org; the deadline to submit the application is 11:59 P.M. on Sunday, February 15th. Those applying for capital funding for a non-City project must also complete the requisite Office of Management and Budget or Department of Cultural Affairs capital application; the deadline to submit those applications is 5:00 PM on Thursday, February 26th. Projects are generally considered non-City projects if the applicant is a not-for-profit organization; those with questions regarding the need to submit a non-City project application should review the summary of the Guidelines for Capital Funding Requests, accessible by visiting the City’s website, www.nyc.gov.
