IN ADVANCE OF JULY 4TH WEEKEND, BOROUGH PRESIDENT CELEBRATES ONE OF SEVERAL FREE SUMMER CONCERT OPPORTUNITIES IN BROOKLYN SUPPORTED BY BROOKLYN BOROUGH HALL
BROOKLYN, NY, July 1, 2016: Today, Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams invited Brooklynites to join him and production company On Stage At Kingsborough for “Hot Summer Nights!”, a free outdoor concert series he is sponsoring at the Lighthouse Bandshell on the campus of Kingsborough Community College in Manhattan Beach. The run of four Saturday evening performances in July will treat music-lovers to gospel, jazz, soul, swing, and other musical genres with the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean. Borough President Adams spoke about the benefits of sharing the love of music as a community, which his office will support through several free concert opportunities this summer.
“Summer nights offer Brooklynites an opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of music in venues across our borough,” said Borough President Adams. “This concert series, which provides free live entertainment with an ocean view and the sea breeze in the air, builds on my efforts to expand access to the arts for every community in One Brooklyn, with an opportunity to celebrate our diverse cultures and rich musical traditions.”
“Our summer concerts will have audiences up on their feet, swinging and swaying to the music,” stated Anna Becker, executive director of On Stage At Kingsborough. “We’ll hear the sounds of swing, and enjoy some jazz standards right alongside some Memphis soul and hot jazz, all while taking in the nearby ocean breeze in the shadow of Kingsborough’s lighthouse by the sea.”
“Hot Summer Nights!” will feature the Glenn Crytzer Orchestra with special guest Lindy Hoppers from the Syncopated City Dance Company on July 2nd, Davina and the Vagabonds on July 9th, Tammy McCann and the Sharp Radway Big Band on July 16th, and Svetlana & the Delancey Six with special guest tap star Michela Marino Lerman on July 23rd. Admission and parking are free and open to the public. For all shows, Kingsborough Community College’s gates open at 7:00 PM and the concerts begin at 8:00 PM. A limited number of seats are available, but everyone is welcome to bring blankets and folding chairs for the grassy areas as well. In the event of inclement weather, the concerts will be relocated to the air-conditioned Leon M. Goldstein Performing Arts Center. Updated location information will be available by calling On Stage at Kingsborough’s box office line at (718) 368-5596 on concert days starting at 4:00 PM. Picnicking is welcomed in addition to food and beverages being available for sale. Additional information about “Hot Summer Nights!” is available at onstageatkingsborough.org.
In addition to the “Hot Summer Nights!” concert series, Borough President Adams will once again host the Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series at Wingate Park in East Flatbush and the Seaside Summer Concert Series at Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk in Coney Island, both of which are free; more information is available at brooklynconcerts.com. At Brooklyn Borough Hall, he provides free entertainment through his Lunchtime School Concert Series, which occurred on four straight Wednesdays from May 25th to June 15th, as well as his upcoming Lunchtime Live Jazz Concerts, which will take place on four straight Thursdays from July 14th to August 4th; more information is available at brooklyn-usa.org.
