BROOKLYN, NY, February 13, 2015: Today, Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams hosted a catered reception for over 150 of Brooklyn’s Golden Couples, all of whom have been together 50 years or more, in a celebration of over 8,000 combined years of their love at Brooklyn Borough Hall. Couples in attendance enjoyed lunch, dancing, a photo booth, and a sparkling wine toast led by Borough President Adams. In advance of Valentine’s Day, Borough President Adams applauded the commitment shown by these couples, representing communities all across the borough, and spoke about his ongoing support of the borough’s elder population.
“Brooklyn’s Golden Couples are a shining example of the power of love and commitment for happy, healthy lives,” said Borough President Adams. “Celebrations like these remind us of the values of family that make our borough an inviting place for all lovers, both young and young at heart.”
Over thirty couples in attendance have been together over 60 years, with the longest-tenured couple being Sara and William Douglas Hill of Bedford-Stuyvesant, who have shared 67 years together. Borough President Adams delighted all of the couples in attendance with a poem he prepared in honor of the event.
“Roses are red, violets are blue,” said Borough President Adams. “Borough Hall’s your home, and Brooklyn loves you!”
Borough President Adams’ reception was co-sponsored by HealthFirst. Additional support came from Bon Soir Caterers, Blue Dish Café, FreshDirect, DJ Kevin Jones, TapSnap Phototainment, and Target. Additionally, students and staff of IS 281 Joseph B. Cavallaro helped greet, serve and entertain guests.
