Brooklyn, NY – As the United States grapples with how to dig out of its worst economy since the Great Depression, and New Yorkers slog through a succession of sweltering summer heatwaves, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams announced that his office is hosting a series of Virtual Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) Training Workshops on select Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout August and September. The trainings will be presented in partnership with Y & N – Gree Commercial USA and will be available for any city resident interested in a career in HVAC, a subdiscipline of mechanical engineering based on the principles of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
With temperatures soaring, COVID-19 raging, and fiscal relief nowhere in sight, there is no better time to learn HVAC skills, a trade that recent US Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts to grow 13 percent — “much faster than the average for all occupations” — from 2018 to 2028, and New York City salaries for skilled HVAC technicians averaging around $54,012, according to ZipRecruiter. This is welcome news, since a recent report by the New School’s Center for New York City Affairs puts real unemployment rates at nearly 33 percent — that’s one third of the population of the entire country that is out of a job.
“Since COVID-19 drove significant swaths of our population indoors because of social distancing regulations, between the need for remote learning and workplace Zooming, we can really appreciate the critical role that HVAC plays in our lives in creating comfortable environments in a diverse range of settings. We often take functioning HVAC for granted, but anyone whose air-conditioning or heating has broken down knows that nothing else matters until you have a skilled HVAC technician get those systems up and running again. As we identify ways we can fire up our economy and bring job prospects to the people who need them the most, I am happy to partner with Y & N – Gree Commercial USA to bring these virtual trainings to interested city residents,” said Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.
“Together, as One Brooklyn, we are happy to partner with Borough President Adams to help build an abundant community, provide job training, and create a better life in a cleaner environment,” said Y & N – Gree Commercial USA Vice President of Marketing Dr. Wenqing Bouche-Pillon.
