BP MARKOWITZ STATEMENT ON PASSING OF FRANK MACCHIAROLA
“Brooklyn has lost one of its greatest sons today. Frank Macchiarola was an educator extraordinaire who took an active role in any project he thought might benefit Brooklynites. Frank’s commitment to the young people of Brooklyn and New York City was unmatched—as a New York City Schools Chancellor, as a professor and administrator at so many of New York City’s universities, and of course as the President of his alma mater, Brooklyn’s own St. Francis College. At every point in his career, Frank was a tireless advocate for students, whether it was in fighting to better the quality of education throughout New York City schools or giving personal attention to a pupil in need while President of St. Francis College. I extend my condolences and prayers to his wife, Mary, their sons Joseph, Michael, and Frank, and to all of their family as we mourn the passing of a true Brooklyn legend.”
