BP MARKOWITZ STATEMENT ON DEATH OF FORMER BROOKLYN RESIDENT, NFL HALL OF FAMER AL DAVIS

“Brooklyn extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of former Brooklyn resident Al Davis, longtime owner of the Oakland Raiders and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Davis took some of that ‘Brooklyn attitude’ he picked up while growing up on President Street in Crown Heights, graduated from Erasmus High School and Syracuse University, and went on to become one of the game-changers in the NFL. Davis may have left Brooklyn, but Brooklyn never left him—he could, as I like to say, be in your face and charm you at the same time.  I hope his loved ones will be comforted by the prayers and thoughts of Brooklynites and sports fans everywhere grateful for the indelible mark he left on our borough and the game of football.”
