FIVE GUYS HIRES 50 “BROOKLYN GUYS” FROM BROOKLYN JOB FAIR HOSTED BY BOROUGH PRESIDENT MARKOWITZ
New Five Guys opens at MetroTech with 30 employees hired from Brooklyn Job Fair on April 13; Twenty other job fair participants placed at other locations

Five Guys Burgers and Fries will open a new store at 2 MetroTech Center in Downtown Brooklyn tomorrow, Friday, May 13, and 30 of the 40 employees working as cashiers, burger cooks, fry cooks, prep cooks and custodial staff at the new location were hired from resumes and applications received by Five Guys at the Brooklyn Job Fair hosted by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz at Long Island University on April 13. The Virginia-based company hired an additional 20 employees from among the 500 applicants they met at the job fair; they have been placed at other locations.

“Five Guys makes a great burger—and believe me, I know burgers,” said Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz. “But more importantly, they are bringing ‘jobs, jobs, jobs’ to Brooklyn, and their new location at MetroTech gives Downtown Brooklyn another delicious dining option. This kind of commitment to the local workforce is indeed ‘rare’—but Five Guys hiring 75 percent of its staff from the Brooklyn Job Fair? Now that’s what I call a job ‘well done!’”

“When we looked through the 500 resumes we got at Marty’s job fair, we ‘flipped’ over all the talent,” said Craig Cohen, Five Guys franchise owner. “It was natural for us to hire Brooklyn folks for this Brooklyn store, and we couldn’t have done it without the help of Marty and the great group of people we met at the job fair. Our only regret is that we didn’t have more jobs. But don’t worry, we’re going to be opening 12 more stores in Brooklyn over the next two years, and we can’t wait to call back some more folks we met in April.”

Five Guys’ Brooklyn locations include Bay Ridge, Park Slope and Brooklyn Heights.
