BP MARKOWITZ PRAISES CITY’S RESPONSE TO OVERNIGHT STORM

“I commend Mayor Bloomberg and his staff, the Sanitation and Transportation departments, emergency management officials and everyone who worked so hard to ensure that our city weathered this morning’s storm. It is clear we have learned a lot from mistakes that occured during the December blizzard, and Mayor Bloomberg made the right decisions yesterday and this morning when he declared a weather emergency, advised motorists to stay off the roads, and closed the public schools and non-essential government offices to ensure the safety of New Yorkers and allow snow removal and mass transportation crews to do their jobs properly. This is the kind of government New Yorkers deserve and expect, and I am confident our city is capable of handling whatever the rest of this winter has in store for us.”
