BP MARKOWITZ STATEMENT ON PASSING OF DUKE SNIDER

“All of Brooklyn mourns the passing of Duke Snider, the ‘Duke of Flatbush’ and one of our borough’s sports legends. Anyone who was a fan of the 1955 championship team, including me as a 10-year-old boy, will never forget our beloved ‘Bums’ knocking off the dreaded Yankees and bringing baseball glory to Ebbets Field and Brooklyn. Duke Snider was one of the greatest baseball players ever, and even though the Dodgers left Brooklyn for Snider’s birthplace of ‘La La Land,’ he will always be an honorary Brooklynite and a true hero, both on and off the field.”
