BP MARKOWITZ STATEMENT ON STATE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT'S APPROVAL OF WAIVER FOR DENNIS WALCOTT TO SERVE AS NEW YORK CITY'S SCHOOLS CHANCELLOR

“On behalf of Brooklyn’s 300,000 public school students and their families I want to thank New York State Education Commissioner David Steiner and the members of the screening panel for their prompt attention to a vital issue. Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott is not simply qualified to be New York City’s Schools Chancellor; he is an exceptional choice with a demonstrated history of achievement improving New York’s schools. I have spoken with Dennis and pledged to support him in every way possible. Here in Brooklyn we are excited to work with Dennis as we help our children reach the zenith of their potential.”
