The Brooklyn Borough President’s Office seeks a Capital Budget Manager to manage the Borough President’s capital budget, serve as an advisor on economic development issues and coordinate varying policy projects upon request. This position will include the following responsibilities:

  • Maintain working relationships with City Council budget staff, mayoral agency capital budget departments and the Office of Management and Budget.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to organizations seeking capital funding throughout the project development and application process.
  • Review, process and evaluate applications for funding.
  • Work with Borough Hall staff to strategically advise the Borough President on capital investments to ensure that the office’s investment portfolio reflects the Borough President’s policy priorities in an equitable manner. 
  • Provide project oversight to ensure that projects proceed expeditiously and within budget.
  • Maintain the necessary databases, spreadsheets and files related to the capital budget.
  • Assist Borough Hall’s policy unit on special projects as needed.
  • Represent the borough president at community events as needed.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent communication skills (unedited electronic writing and spreadsheet samples will be required from each final candidate)
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, New York City’s capital budget process and economic development
  • Strong research skills, attention to detail and a desire to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and FileMaker, etc.)
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in economics, finance, public administration, urban studies, political science or other related fields, however, a Master’s degree is preferred
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • 2 – 3 years or relevant experience required
  • A valid New York State Driver’s License required
  • NYC residency required

Liaison to New York City Department of Education, parent groups, government agencies and community-based organizations serving all levels of the education spectrum. Work closely with the Borough President’s appointment to the Panel on Educational Policy. Maintain a high level of knowledge concerning issues that impact Pre-K through higher education. Produce and direct projects, conferences, events and initiatives promoting efforts of Borough President’s Office in support of quality education and opportunities for the Borough’s youth. Work cooperatively with all Borough President staff to promote Borough President initiatives. Represent Borough President at borough-wide and citywide events and meetings with organizations and government agencies serving above populations. Research and analyze Federal, State and City budgets, legislation, initiatives and issues. Prepare briefings, remarks and testimony for Borough President and when necessary deliver on his behalf. Write letters of support and draft correspondence to resolve constituent issues working with appropriate city agencies and service organizations. NYC residency required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Excellent working knowledge of City government.
• Excellent writing and people skills a must.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and research skills
• Must be able to multi-task under pressure
• Advanced degree in public policy, law, urban planning or political science    preferred

Seeking a highly skilled, energetic, efficient, self-starter to serve as Senior Writer/Editor to the Brooklyn Borough President. Duties will include writing agency newsletter several times throughout the year, speeches, testimony, correspondence and other written materials, as well as proofreading various documents prepared throughout the agency. Ideal candidate will be capable of capturing the Borough President’s style and voice for all communications and have writing experience in government or public relations. Must be able to produce high quality, thoroughly researched work under extremely tight deadlines, possess intricate knowledge of Brooklyn, and have a flexible schedule. NYC residency required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Intermediate knowledge of MS word; ability to create word merge documents
• BA/BS degree and 4 years professional writing experience
• Excellent writing skills a must
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and research skills
• Extremely organized - strict adherence to deadlines

Seeking a highly skilled, creative, organized, efficient and detail-oriented writer/editor to resarch, write and coordinate proclamations, letters, newsletter articles and other materials in the Communications Office of the Brooklyn Borough President.  Responsible for producing a large number of documents every week that are engagingly written and error-free. Duties involve calling and conversing with constiuents, organizations, and proclamation recipients to conduct research and fact check.  Requires experience as a writer and editor.  Must have the ability to maintain tight deadlines in a busy environment. Knowledge of Brooklyn and interest in its neighborhoods and communities a plus.  NYC residency required.
