OFFICE TITLE: External Affairs Coordinator SALARY: $33,799 - New City Employees                                                                     $38,869 - Incumbent Rate

Special Events
Will plan, organize and execute special events and/or programs.  Responsible for overall coordination of both small and large scale Borough President-sponsored events and will provide support services for outside events.  Reporting to the Senior Director of External Affairs to affect marketing, audio/technical and communication needs, outreach strategy and available budget for all events.  Anticipated 30-45 events annually, and one-time special events.  Event size will vary from 10 to 300+ attendees.  Events may include, but are not limited to the following: cultural heritage celebrations, outdoor concerts, street fairs, graduations, press conferences, informational meetings, receptions, conferences, awards ceremonies, and other Brooklyn-centric recognition events as needed.

Community Outreach
Assist city residents in resolving disputes with government agencies, advocate on behalf of underserved communities, and assure effective operation of city services. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to receiving and responding to telephone, written, and in-person complaints and inquiries regarding city agency services; providing information and referral; maintaining data on various constituent groups; developing and maintaining a working knowledge and understanding of city agencies; Conduct outreach and serve as liaison to business improvement districts (BID), community boards, neighborhood associations and elected official offices; attend community forums, events and project briefings. Identify opportunities for the Brooklyn Borough President’s office to partner with community organizations, city agencies, other elected officials and all residents.

Knowledge of Brooklyn and interest in its neighborhoods and communities is a plus, must have a flexible schedule. NYC residency required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Extremely organized and be able to manage competing priorities.
• Able to work independently and document planning, processes and results.
• BA/BS degree and 2-4 years professional experience preferable in event    planning.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal, and problem    solving skills.
• Creative mindset with ability to develop new projects for community outreach    and involvement.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products and Google applications.
• Knowledge of NYC agencies and previous work in a government office is    advantageous.
• Candidates must be available to work occasional evenings or weekends for    events.

Civil Service Title: Community Coordinator     Title Code: 56058

Seeking a highly skilled, energetic, efficient, self-starter to serve as Senior Writer/Editor to the Brooklyn Borough President. Duties will include writing agency newsletter several times throughout the year, speeches, testimony, correspondence and other written materials, as well as proofreading various documents prepared throughout the agency. Ideal candidate will be capable of capturing the Borough President’s style and voice for all communications and have writing experience in government or public relations. Must be able to produce high quality, thoroughly researched work under extremely tight deadlines, possess intricate knowledge of Brooklyn, and have a flexible schedule. NYC residency required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Intermediate knowledge of MS word; ability to create word merge documents
• BA/BS degree and 4 years professional writing experience
• Excellent writing skills a must
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and research skills

Seeking a highly skilled, creative, organized, efficient and detail-oriented writer/editor to resarch, write and coordinate proclamations, letters, newsletter articles and other materials in the Communications Office of the Brooklyn Borough President.  Responsible for producing a large number of documents every week that are engagingly written and error-free. Duties involve calling and conversing with constiuents, organizations, and proclamation recipients to conduct research and fact check.  Requires experience as a writer and editor.  Must have the ability to maintain tight deadlines in a busy environment. Knowledge of Brooklyn and interest in its neighborhoods and communities a plus.  NYC residency required.
