On Thursday, December 21, Care for the Homeless (CFH) in association with Long Island University (LIU) will co-host the annual Homeless Person\’s Memorial Day (HPMD).
Held each year on the winter solstice – the longest night of the year – the HPMD program commemorates people who have passed away during the year without stable housing and to advocate for polices to end homelessness.
HPMD, which is free and open to the public, will be held at LIU Brooklyn, Luntey Commons, 1 University Plaza, Brooklyn (entry to the event is on the corner of Dekalb Ave. and Flatbush Ave). It offers a meal beginning at 4:30 p.m and a program beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The program will include remarks and a memorial portion where the names of those who have passed are read while a bell tolls, a candle is lit, and information about that person is projected on a screen. Each year it has proven to be a very moving and memorable event for all who attend. Please join us!
