Brooklynites love their pets. According to the NYCEDC’s Center for Economic Transformation, there are approximately 420,000 cats and dogs living in Brooklyn. These pets are our family members, our exercise buddies, our confidants, and friendly faces that greet us when we get home.
I have taken the lead in incentivizing shelter adoption for the millions of cats and dogs in our shelter system. In 2014, my office had a state bill introduced that would provide a tax credit for families willing to adopt a dog or cat from the overburdened shelter systems.
