On Monday, August 4, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and Special Assistant to the Borough President Yvonne Graham welcomed Rep. Edolphus “Ed” Towns and other elected and community leaders to Brooklyn Borough Hall to honor Sanctuary for Families, the New York City Family Justice Center in Brooklyn, Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A and the North Brooklyn Coalition Against Family Violence for their work in domestic violence prevention, intervention and treatment services.

“Domestic violence is not just an issue that impacts the feuding individuals,” says BP Markowitz. “We all have a responsibility to raise our voices and seek help—and justice—for those who need it. It’s important to have programs that can build up and enhance self-respect, and Brooklyn is truly blessed to have organizations like these to provide sanctuary to those most in need and help them rebuild their lives.”
