On Friday, November 30, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined with leaders of the Bangladeshi community and urged residents to help with the relief effort underway in Bangladesh following the devastation left by Tropical Cyclone Sidr.

“In times of crisis, Brooklynites have come together to support natural disaster relief efforts for victims elsewhere in the world, and Brooklyn now feels that same compassion for those affected by the Bangladesh cyclone,” said Borough President Markowitz. “Brooklyn is proud home to a large and vibrant Bangladeshi-American community, and what affects the residents of Bangladesh affects Brooklyn.”

“In an hour of crisis when our brothers and sisters in Bangladesh have been devastated by the cyclone, we all must come together to give a helping hand,” said Mohammad Razvi, Executive Director of the Council of Peoples Organization (COPO). “As a true leader of the world, it is our duty to come forward to help them rebuild.”
