On November 29, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and Deputy Borough President Yvonne Graham participated in the citywide “Day Out Against Hate” organized by Speaker Christine Quinn and the Members of the New York City Council. Gatherings were held in each of the five boroughs, with Brooklyn kicking off the day’s events at an interfaith breakfast roundtable held at Medgar Evers College.

According to the organizers, the “Day Out Against Hate” is in response to the approximately 20 percent increase in hate crimes that have occurred in the City in the past year. Other speakers at the Brooklyn event included the Reverend Al Sharpton and Rabbi Joseph Patasnik of the New York Board of Rabbis.
