BP MARKOWITZ OPENS 17th ANNUAL GOTHAM AWARDS AT BROOKLYN’S STEINER STUDIOS ON TUESDAY

7:30 P.M.
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 27
STEINER STUDIOS
15 WASHINGTON AVENUE
BROOKLYN NAVY YARD

On Tuesday, November 27, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will officially open the 17th Annual Gotham Awards being held at Steiner Studios at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The Gotham Awards were established by IFP to honor the best in independent film making, and this marks the first time the celebration is being held at Steiner Studios, the new epicenter of New York City’s resurgent film industry.

The Brooklyn Borough President’s Office took an active role in assisting organizers with bringing the star-studded event to Steiner Studios, whose soundstage can more easily accommodate the 1,000 guests expected at this year’s awards presentation. Steiner is Brooklyn’s largest and New York City’s second largest film studio, and scenes from several recent movies, including Spider-Man 3 and Inside Man, have been shot there.

“We are thrilled to welcome the annual Gotham Awards to Brooklyn,” said BP Markowitz. “We are a hotbed of independent film and home to many, many filmmakers like those championed by the Gothams and IFP—with innovative aesthetic vision and what we call ‘chutzpah.’ When it comes to creative moviemaking, Brooklyn says, ‘Roll ’em!’”
