On Tuesday, May 29, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined with civic leaders, members of the community, and Consul Xuhui Zhong of the People’s Republic of China to celebrate Asian-American Heritage at Borough Hall.

“Brooklyn is fortunate to be home to Asian-Americans from a variety of countries, faiths, and traditions,” said Borough President Markowitz. “Each of these communities adds so much character and vitality to Brooklyn’s unrivaled diversity — and their contributions are part of what makes Brooklyn such a great American city.”

The Chinese and Korean flags flew over Borough Hall, where a lion dance and performances by the Korean American Traditional Art Department Association and the Chinese-American Planning Council’s Beacon program at IS 220 entertained the audience. Delicious food provided by Pacificana Restaurant and the Korean-American Brooklyn Association of NY completed the celebration, which was open to the public.

Several distinguished members of Brooklyn’s Asian-American community were honored at the event, including Katy Chau, Health and Human Services Director of the Brooklyn Chinese American Association; Jean Paul Ho, Vice President of Fillmore Realty; Kwang Sook Kim, dedicated member of the Korean-American Brooklyn Association of NY; Kyung Yul Kang, Vice President of the Korean Dry Cleaners Association; and the United Chinese Association of Brooklyn.
