BP MARKOWITZ TO HIGHLIGHT VOTER AWARENESS MONTH WITH TEEN BOY SCOUTS

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30
ATLANTIC CENTER MALL
CORNER OF ATLANTIC AND FLATBUSH AVENUE
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN

On Saturday, September 30, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will highlight Voter Awareness Month by participating in a voter registration/education drive coordinated by 17 year- old high school senior and Park Slope resident Noah Chasek Macfoy. Although not yet old enough to vote, Noah is already active in his school’s community council and understands the importance of participating in the electoral process. On Saturday, Noah will rally his Boy Scout troupe and two other Brooklyn troupes to distribute voter registration forms at the Atlantic Center mall.

Voter turnout in elections has declined significantly in recent decades, and participation among minority groups, new Americans, and young people remains lower than the national average. Saturday’s event at the Atlantic Center will be part of the first-ever five-borough coordinated campaign to promote voter education, awareness, and participation among groups that could benefit from taking part in the electoral process. From September 14 to October 13, the citywide Voter Awareness Campaign will bring together 20 civic organizations to hold more than 60 registration drives, public forums, and other events across the city.

Borough President Markowitz is proud to join Noah Macfoy and other young Brooklynites as they perform an important civic duty and encourage those who can to vote.
