On Tuesday, September 19, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz celebrated a star of Brooklyn’s culinary universe when he proclaimed “La Bagel Delight 20th Anniversary Celebration Day” in Brooklyn. Since 1986, under the direction of partners Frank Bavaro, Dino Bavaro, Dominick Orlando, and Michael Vazquez, La Bagel Delight has been preparing delicious hand-rolled, boiled bagels for Brooklynites and visitors at their flagship Park Slope location on Seventh Avenue between President and Carroll Street.

Twenty years and five locations later, the Brooklyn-style bagels and mountain-high sandwiches — including the Turkey Explosion and Park Slob — have secured La Bagel Delight’s status as a top destination for hand-made bagelry.

“In Brooklyn the bagel is a food group, and La Bagel Delight is as Brooklyn as they come,” said Borough President Markowitz. “They’ve been making bagels the old-fashioned way for 20 years and their sandwiches satisfy even Brooklyn’s biggest appetites. Here’s to 20 more!”
