On Wednesday, October 25, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined NY ACORN Executive Director Bertha Lewis and NYC Department of Education Chief Executive of Student Enrollment, Planning, and Operations Elizabeth Sciabarra to announce the launch of NYCSchoolFinder.com, a website to assist parents and students as they navigate the process of applying to high school in New York City.

Along with NYCSchoolFinder.com, ACORN will conduct a grassroots initiative that includes 100 workshops and counseling sessions, before the December 1 application deadline, to inform students and families in person about the high school selection and application process and help them identify and select schools that best meet their children’s needs and interests.

“Choosing the right high school isn’t easy, and I’m confident that ACORN’s SchoolFinder website will help ensure that every child and parent in our borough has the tools and information to identify the best school match for their needs,” said Borough President Markowitz. “When young Brooklynites are excited about learning and have the resources they deserve, they grow into assets in our workforce and legends and stars in their fields.”

The website, www.NYCschoolFinder.com, features a calendar of important events and admissions deadlines, information on the many types of public and private schools available, and a searchable index of public high schools that provides school-specific information on school size, student population, graduation rates, and academic themes.
