On Monday, October 16, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz kicked off the fifth annual “Take Your Man to the Doctor” week, welcoming women who brought the men in their lives to participate in the many free health screenings offered by more than a dozen participating “Take Your Man to the Doctor” service providers who set up screening stations at Borough Hall Plaza.
Men who showed up by themselves also took advantage of the free health screenings for asthma, blood pressure, colorectal cancer, cholesterol, diabetes, dental/oral cancer, depression, glucose, glaucoma, hearing, HIV/AIDS, prostate cancer, pulmonary disease, stroke, stress, weight control/obesity and other conditions, along with important health information.
Women were treated to long-stemmed roses for their dedication while men got “Take Your Man to the Doctor” t-shirts and a copy of Tune Up for Life, a men’s maintenance guide for good health that includes a timetable for recommend medical tests.
“Nag him, drag him, cajole him, entice him, just get that man to one of our free screenings,” said Borough President Markowitz. “This year more than any other, from my heart, I am urging everyone to take steps too ensure your healthy future and visit the doctor.”
Borough President Markowitz and Deputy Borough President Yvonne Graham were joined at the free health screenings by participating “Take Your Man” partners including the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Brooklyn District Public Health Office, Continuum Health Partners, Long Island Community Hospital and Beth Israel Kings Highway Division, Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, MetroPlus, SUNY Downstate Medical Center STAR Health Center, and Central Brooklyn Medical Group.
Additional free health screenings will be held Wednesday October 18, at Atlantic Center mall from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, Thursday October 19, at Kings Plaza 11:00am to 3:00pm, and Sunday October 22, at Gateway Center mall 11:00am to 3:00pm.
