BP MARKOWITZ JOINS ELECTED OFFICIALS TO ANNOUNCE
RE-DEVELOPMENT OF WILLAMSBURG MANUFACTURING CENTER

11:00 AM
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2006
GREENPOINT MANUFACTURING DESIGN CENTER
1155 MANHATTAN AVENUE (AT COMMERCIAL STREET)

 NEAR PULASKI BRIDGE
GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN

On Thursday, October 5, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will join City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Council Members Diana Reyna and David Yassky, and Mayor’s Office of Industrial and Manufacturing Businesses Director Carl Hum, and Greenpoint Manufacturing Design Center CEO Brian Coleman at the GMDC to announce the renovation and development of a building for local commercial uses in East Williamsburg.

The project was made possible in part by $4 million in City funds, including $500,000 from the Borough President’s capital budget. The plan calls for the complete renovation of a 72,000 square-foot building – located at 221 McKibbin Street – that will house light manufacturing and artisan tenants in small and mid-sized units at below-market rents. The new facility will serve approximately 25 businesses and will employ a projected 100 local residents in living-wage jobs.

Borough President Markowitz led the initiative to ensure that small businesses in the recently rezoned area of Williamsburg-Greenpoint receive assistance in finding a new, convenient location at a reasonable rent.

Tenants are expected to move into the facility in late 2007.
