BP MARKOWITZ AND JUNIOR LEAGUE OF BROOKLYN HELP
YOUTH THINK “OUT OF THE BOX”

New workshop series promotes financial literacy among Brooklyn teens.

9:00 A.M.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 18
WASHINGTON MUTUAL BANK
9 DEKALB AVENUE
BETWEEN ALBEE SQUARE & FLATBUSH AVENUE EXTENSION
DOWNTOWN, BROOKLYN

On Saturday, November 18, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will join the Junior League of Brooklyn to announce its partnership with Out Of The Box (OOTB), a not-for-profit financial literacy program, as they launch a financial workshop series for young Brooklynites.

During Saturday classes the program will teach more than 100 students aged 14-18 the skills necessary to master financial independence, including instruction in banking, budgeting, investing, credit, and entrepreneurship. OOTB’s mission is to increase educational, economic, and social development opportunities for youth. Upon completing the six-week program, students will have a resume, business cards, a mock stock portfolio, and a checking account with a major bank.

The Junior League of Brooklyn is an inclusive, non-profit women’s organization that seeks to enrich Brooklyn through the effective action and leadership of its trained volunteers, and Borough President Markowitz is proud to join them as they prepare Brooklyn teens for stable financial futures.
