Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz started the month of November with a mission to boost Brooklyn’s profile on the global travel stage by making a trip to the United Kingdom where he participated in the World Travel Market, one of the world’s largest travel industry expositions. Brooklyn had a promotional booth at the exposition and Borough President Markowitz worked with the city’s tourism agency NYC & Co., the Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, and Heart of Brooklyn, a partnership of the borough’s cultural institutions, to ensure Brooklyn is represented when travel companies create itineraries for package tours.
During his stay Borough President Markowitz also addressed a crowd of over 100 travel professionals in York, two hours north of London, where he touted the world class cultural institutions and unique attractions that make Brooklyn a destination worthy of globetrotters everywhere.
In addition to participating in the travel expo, Borough President Markowitz met with London Deputy Mayor Nicky Gavron, visited Parliament, and attended a New York State wine tasting presented by NYC & Co.
“Tourism is one of Brooklyn's biggest and most vital growth sectors, and I'll do whatever it takes to show the world the beauty of our borough—even if it means leaving Brooklyn,” said Borough President Markowitz.
