On Thursday, November 9, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will welcome leading “green” energy and environmental sustainability experts to the second annual “Green Brooklyn” conference, presented by the Brooklyn Center for the Urban Environment. The all-day event will inform Brooklynites of the latest trends in green initiatives in their own backyard and feature workshops, exhibits, and panel discussions on sustainable development in the 21st century with a focus on this year’s theme, “The Sustainable City.”
Special presentations will be provided by Jeffrey Hollender, President and CEO of Seventh Generation, a leading national green company, and Matthew Berman, winner of Global Green USA and actor Brad Pitt’s sustainable-design competition to green New Orleans. Nearly two dozen exhibitors will join representatives from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and nonprofit organization Earth Pledge to offer practical advice and information on helping to create a sustainable city.
“In Brooklyn, we’re proud of initiatives like the solar-powered Stillwell Avenue subway terminal in Coney Island, the LEED Silver goal at the Brooklyn Navy Yard’s expansion, and the reclaiming of a huge Sunset Park brownfield site for a gorgeous waterfront recreation area,” said Borough President Markowitz. “As Brooklyn grows, we must encourage conservation while promoting energy-efficient homes and businesses and the use of renewable resources like wind, hydro-, and solar power. With projects like the ‘Green Brooklyn’ conference and partners like BCUE, Brooklyn will continue to not only grow smart, but grow green.”
The “Green Brooklyn” conference is a day-long event presented by the Brooklyn Center for the Urban Environment and sponsored by Con Edison. It will run from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
