"TOP CHEF" BP MARKOWITZ COOKS UP SOME HOLIDAY CHEER FOR THE WOMEN OF THE BROOKLYN YWCA

Joins Brooklyn leaders to promote canned food donations and prepare meals for needy Brooklynites

10:00 A.M.
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 21
NEW YORK MARRIOTT AT THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE
333 ADAMS STREET
BETWEEN JOHNSON & WILLOUGHBY STREETS
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN

On Thursday, December 21, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will begin what is sure to become a proud holiday tradition when he joins Downtown Brooklyn Partnership President Joe Chan, New York Marriott Hotel at the Brooklyn Bridge General Manager Sam Ibrahim, and Brooklyn Daily Eagle publisher Dozier Hasty as the men take to the kitchen to prepare holiday turkeys with all of the trimmings for the women of the YWCA of Brooklyn’s Judson Post Hall Residence.

In addition to its core mission of helping women achieve their goals and attain economic self-sufficiency, Brooklyn’s YWCA has a proud history of empowering women since its doors first opened in 1888. The YWCA’s Judson Post Hall Residence for Women provides 214 low income women aged 19 to 95 a safe, warm, community atmosphere at affordable rates.

The catering staff of the New York Marriott Hotel at the Brooklyn Bridge will supervise the preparation of the meal while Borough President Markowitz and the other novice chefs don aprons and chef hats to cook up some good cheer for needy Brooklynites. Although soup kitchens and food pantries cannot accept food prepared in private homes, Borough President Markowitz will be calling on Brooklynites to donate canned goods, money, and their time to organizations that work to provide food and services to Brooklyn’s neediest residents all year long.

Canned food and clothing donations can be dropped off at all police precincts and fire houses throughout Brooklyn and New York City.
