On Saturday, December 16, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will help make the season bright for 3,000 Brooklyn children who live in shelters and NYCHA housing when he hosts Best of Brooklyn Holiday Celebration 2006 at the Christian Cultural Center in East New York. This year’s show promises to be more spectacular than ever as the Grinch steals into Brooklyn with designs on robbing the borough of its holiday spirit. The Cat in the Hat, his friends Thing 1, Thing 2, and a smart little girl with lots of “Brooklyn Attitude” thwart his plan and spread enough holiday cheer to warm the Grinch’s heart. And to make sure that the show is the only thing the Grinch steals, toy soldiers will stand guard as each child picks a gift from the toy rooms overflowing with new games, sporting equipment, dolls, and more.
Merry, Merry Mayhem is a family-style show sure to dazzle and delight with performances by Brooklyn’s newest high stepping marching band Approaching Storm; the Brooklyn Ballet performing excerpts from the Nutcracker; Anna Jack, her daughter Daniella “The Hula Hoop Girl,” and their performing poodles; Apollo Theater Amateur Contest champs Brooklyn-born R&B duo DEEP; acrobatic juggling from Christina Gelsone and Seth Bloom of Clowning Around; Fort Greene Music Scene’s KoolKidz; contortionist Lazer and the Positive Brothers.
This heartwarming holiday highlight, presented at the state-of-the-art Christian Cultural Center in East New York, is made possible by dozens of sponsors and is sure to inspire many memories that will last all season and beyond.
