BP MARKOWITZ AND FINANCE COMMISSIONER STARK TO HOST
FIRST BROOKLYN HOMEOWNERS FAIR

Experts will provide free assistance to help reduce owners’ tax bills.

5:30 P.M.
MONDAY, APRIL 24
BROOKLYN BOROUGH HALL ROTUNDA
209 JORALEMON STREET
BETWEEN COURT & ADAMS STREETS
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN

Today, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and New York City Department of Finance Commissioner Martha E. Stark will host the first-ever Brooklyn Homeowners Fair, at Brooklyn Borough Hall from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. Department of Finance staff will be available to provide free assistance to homeowners at the fair, including how to reduce tax bills by enrolling in tax exemption programs and how property is valued and assessed.

The Homeowners Fair is part of the Fifth Annual Assembly of the Federation of Brooklyn Block Associations, where staff from several City agencies as well as the American Heart Association, the Office of Emergency Management, the NYPD, and the Green Bridge Community Horticulture Program will be on-hand to inform residents and block associations about issues and programs such as household emergency preparedness, the Greenest Block Contest, block-party safety measures, and forming a block or neighborhood association.

“Every Brooklyn block represents a unique community, connected by residents who celebrate our diversity and our relentless pursuit of the American Dream, and this annual gathering helps to further improve the quality of life in our thriving neighborhoods,” said Borough President Markowitz. “Whether you’re a homeowner seeking tax advice or a gardener hoping to beautify your block, the Assembly has a can-do attitude — which also happens to be the Brooklyn attitude!”

“This is an excellent opportunity for owners to find out how to lower their tax bills, fight parking tickets, and understand how the Finance Department determines people’s property values,” said Commissioner Stark. “It’s also a chance for my fellow Brooklynites to tell us how we can improve our services, and I look forward to hearing from them.”

Those who wish to attend should RSVP to 718-802-3656.
