“Now We Get to the Nitty Gritty” – Borough President Marty Markowitz
“Now that the Atlantic Yards bid has been accepted, the next step is for the EIS scoping hearing to be set. We will now delve into the nitty gritty of every single legitimate issue that the community has brought forth. Brooklynites must see a comprehensive and realistic plan that addresses traffic, parking, public transit, parks and open space, community facilities, noise, air quality, density, and every other planning challenge that a project of this scale entails.
“In addition to the scoping hearing, I have convened a committee of the Brooklyn Borough Board with city council members and community board leaders in neighboring districts to provide continual review and feedback on the plan as it evolves. We are going to roll up our sleeves and take Atlantic Yards to its great potential so that it will be something that everyone, even those who may now oppose it, ultimately see the great benefit of. The MTA sealed this deal because it is works best for Brooklyn, the City, and the State, by producing significant tax revenue, a world class arena, thousands of new jobs and thousands of affordable new homes for Brooklynites.”
