“BROOKLYN SETS THE STANDARD” – MARKOWITZ

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined ACORN, BUILD, Forest City Ratner, the mayor and Brooklyn community organizations at a June 27 news conference announcing the Community Benefits Agreement for Atlantic Yards.

“Once again Brooklyn sets the standard for urban America, showing the rest of the nation and the world how to get things done right,” Markowitz said. “This is a landmark partnership between a private developer and the community, one that ensures that thousands of residents will share in the prosperity that arises from this project.  The job training and outreach to residents of public housing, the training for union apprenticeship programs, and the wage and benefits agreement are highly tangible economic benefits that will help many Brooklynites break out of poverty.  The community health care center to be located on site will make it easier and more convenient for residents to gain access to important medical services such as childhood immunization.  The affordable housing commitment will help maintain Brooklyn’s economic diversity, keeping us from becoming home to only the wealthy and the very poor. Thanks are due to all those who made this a reality on behalf of everyone who will gain jobs and greater opportunity and all the Brooklyn families who will get to cheer for the Brooklyn Nets.  How sweet it is!”
