Chess players at I.S. 228 David A. Boody School in Gravesend have proven themselves true champs. Now these 6th through 8th graders need help to compete in the 2005 Supernationals.

In 2004 the school sent 22 children to the chess Supernationals in Tucson, where they took first place in two categories and where two team members were named national champions. Now the team is trying to raise $5000 to ensure that they can compete at this year’s Supernationals in Nashville on April 8-10. On January 30, David Boody’s team also took first place at the Annual Greater New York Chess tournament.

Donations may be sent to I.S. 228 Parent Coordinator Theresa Francis, I.S. 228, David A. Boody School, 228 Avenue S, Brooklyn, NY 11223. Checks may be made out to I.S. 228, and sent with a note that the donations are for the 2005 Boody chess team.

Borough President Marty Markowitz recently hosted some of the I.S. 228 chess champs at Brooklyn Borough Hall.
