New tourism website highlights best things to see and do in Brooklyn
On Tuesday, April 19, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz unveiled the Brooklyn Tourism & Visitors Center’s (BTVC) new website www.brooklyntourism.org and announced the members of the executive board of the Brooklyn Tourism Partnership to celebrate the center’s first birthday. Brooklyn Tourism Partnership is a free membership organization of cultural institutions, attractions and businesses in Brooklyn that benefit from tourism.
“I am proud to announce that tourists now have a one-stop online resource for all things Brooklyn,” said Borough President Markowitz. “At our beautiful new website, www.brooklyntourism.org, visitors can find out about upcoming events, dining, places to stay, and getting around. The website is packed with details about Brooklyn’s world-class destinations, unique events, natural beauty, art scene, welcoming inns and hotels, important historic sites, the hippest fashion and design boutiques, the best discount shopping in the country — and of course my personal favorite — Brooklyn’s fabulous restaurants and eateries. The site also celebrates the fact that we continue to be proud home to everyone from everywhere. Without a doubt, that’s enough to attract tourists from Georgia to Germany to Japan.”
The Brooklyn Tourism Partnership will be based out of the BTVC and the executive board’s first task will be to create a new marketing slogan for Brooklyn. “We are still accepting suggestions for a slogan, and I encourage anyone and everyone to submit theirs before the end of May,” said Markowitz. “With Brooklyn’s character — and its cast of characters — I’m sure we can come up with a winner.”
Executive Board Members of the Brooklyn Tourism Partnership include: Greg Atkins, Chief of Staff for the Brooklyn Borough President; Carolyn Greer, Director Public Events, Special Projects and Tourism for the Brooklyn Borough President; Michael Burke, Director of Downtown Brooklyn Council; Ken Adams, President of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce; Joan Bartolomeo, President of Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation; Steve Hindy, President of the Brooklyn Brewery; Alison Tocci, Publisher of Time Out NY; Ellen Salpeter; Director of Heart of Brooklyn; Karen Brooks Hopkins, President of BAM; Patrick Condren, Bay Ridge Local Development Corporation; Danny Simmons, Founder of Project Diversity; Pam Green, Executive Director of Weeksville Society; and Cynthia Reich, Deputy Director of the New York Aquarium at Coney Island.
If you would like to suggest a slogan or if your organization wants to join the Brooklyn Tourism Partnership please email btvcinfo@brooklyntourism.org or call the BTVC at (718) 802-3846.
The Brooklyn Tourism and Visitors Center is a destination marketing organization, managed and operated by the Borough President’s office and the non-profit Best of Brooklyn. The design and development of the BTVC website was a collaborative project of Atelier Design Group, LLC and Hyperakt Design Group, Inc.
BTVC initiatives are supported by funds allocated by the Brooklyn Delegation of the New York City Council with additional funds from City Council Speaker Gifford Miller, and Council Members Domenic Recchia and David Yassky. BTVC is also supported by grants from New York State Senator Marty Golden, the Brooklyn Delegation of the State Assembly and the NYC & Company Foundation.
