Students Leaders from Ten of Brooklyn’s Institutions of Higher Learning Visit Borough Hall
On Thursday, November 18, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz met with seventeen student government leaders from ten of Brooklyn’s private and public colleges and universities to discuss Brooklyn’s future and hear the concerns of student constituents. Student leaders from Brooklyn College, Brooklyn Law School, SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Kingsborough Community College, Long Island University, Medgar Evers College, New York City College of Technology, Pratt Institute, Polytechnic University, and St. Francis College participated in the meeting.
“Brooklyn is known as a college town with over a dozen of the best colleges and universities in the tri-state area and throughout the country,” said Borough President Markowitz. “By students taking on leadership positions in their schools they are ensuring that the voices of their peers are heard and that in turn enhances Brooklyn’s reputation as a premier higher education destination. As a former student government leader at Brooklyn College, I’m convinced that the student government leaders of today will be the future government leaders of tomorrow.”
Borough President Markowitz graduated from Brooklyn College’s School of General Studies (SGS) evening division with a bachelor’s degree. He was president of the SGS student government for seven of his nine years at the College.
