BOROUGH PRESIDENT MARKOWITZ’S STATEMENT ON COURT FINDING THAT ADDITIONAL FUNDING
IS DUE TO NEW YORK CITY’S SCHOOLS

“This additional funding —$5.6 billion in operating aid and $9.2 billion in capital funds — will help give the students of Brooklyn and New York City the chance to succeed that they so richly deserve. The Special Masters on the panel have recognized that the education of our city’s children is no less important than the education of children anywhere else in New York State.

I call on Governor Pataki, Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver to make this funding a reality — because Brooklyn’s children can no longer be shortchanged.

I have every expectation that once New York State’s leaders come through for us, the City will be sure to partner with our children’s parents to decide the best way to allocate this much needed funding.”
