Borough President donates toys and games to needy Brooklyn youngsters
On Thursday, December 16, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz distributed about 1,000 toys at Borough Hall to over 30 groups including boys & girls clubs, church groups and youth programs. These groups will then give the toys to needy children throughout Brooklyn.
“Brooklynites have once again demonstrated the strength of the Brooklyn spirit!” said Borough President Markowitz. “Brooklynites are known for their generosity and compassion and this year our annual toy drive collected more toys and games than ever before. The children throughout the borough are receiving much more than just a toy, they are receiving the message that we love and care about them. These simple gestures can mean all the difference in the world to the futures of these very special children who we will be depending upon in the years ahead.”
“The Green-Wood Cemetery is committed to partnering with members of the Brooklyn community and applauds the Borough President for his efforts in making his annual Toy Drive a tremendous success,” said Nicholas S. Pisano, Vice President of Green-Wood Cemetery.
The toys were graciously donated by everyday Brooklynites through the Borough President’s annual Toy Drive with Best of Brooklyn, Inc. along with contributions from the Brooklyn Navy Yard and the Fulton Mall Association. Toy drives were held at numerous locations in Brooklyn including various Citibank branches, Green-Wood Cemetery, Prospect Park Alliance and Two Trees Management.
