More than 700 turkeys will be given away to feed those most in need!
On Monday November 24th, Borough President Marty Markowitz gave away more than 700 turkeys, more than 1800 pounds of apples, more than 1800 pounds of collard greens, more than 1500 pounds of baking potatoes and over 1000 pounds of sweet potatoes. Starting at noon, representatives of 65 Brooklyn community groups including senior centers, churches, women’s shelters, and tenant’s associations came to Borough Hall to pick up the turkeys and fresh produce, which will be used to feed thousands of needy Brooklynites over the Thanksgiving holiday.
All of the food given away was graciously donated by Health Plus, Fulton Street Mall Assoc. and the Korean-American Brooklyn Association, NY. Inc.
“I am so happy my annual Thanksgiving food distribution grows each year,” said Borough President Markowitz. “This year we had even more groups and even more food, which means even more families will have a feast on their table this Thanksgiving. Many thanks are due to our generous sponsors who came through for those families who otherwise wouldn’t be able to share in the joy of the holidays.”
"The Fulton Mall Improvement Association’s Board of Directors is always proud to work with the Borough President to help less fortunate Brooklynites enjoy the holidays," said Mike Weiss on behalf of the Fulton Mall Merchants. “We want to wish every family in Brooklyn a happy and healthy holiday season.”
"HealthPlus is in the business of helping Brooklynites have a healthier life. So we're proud to support Borough President Markowitz's turkey giveaway,” said Health Plus's Executive Director Tom Early. “We are so thrilled that more families in Brooklyn will have nutritious food for the holidays.”
“The Korean American Association of New York is honored to help ensure that all Brooklynites will have an excellent Thanksgiving,” said Kum-Ok Kim, President of Association.
