On November 17, 2003, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined Judge Cheryl Chambers and First Deputy County Clerk Herbert Lupka, to kick off Juror Appreciation Week at the Kings County Supreme Court of the State of New York. The Borough President commended jurors for their service, shared some of the history of Brooklyn and invited all to visit nearby Borough Hall.
Juror Appreciation Week was implemented by Chief Justice Judith S. Kaye of the State of New York in 1996 as a way to say thank you to those who contribute their time for this important service.
In addition to greetings from the Borough President and Judges, the jurors receive vendor discounts at many of the local businesses in the downtown Brooklyn area, a miniature gavel and copies of daily newspapers for the entire week. A “juror lotto” is also held each day.
