STATEMENT BY BOROUGH PRESIDENT MARKOWITZ ON THE DEATH OF BROOKLYN'S OWN ARMY SPECIALIST RASHEED SAHIB IN IRAQ
“All of Brooklyn is mourning the death of Army Specialist Rasheed Sahib from Bushwick who was accidentally killed in Iraq on Sunday when another soldier’s gun discharged. The 22-year-old graduate of Franklin K. Lane High School was scheduled to leave the Army in February, but he decided to re-enlist. Specialist Sahib, who dreamed of becoming a FBI agent, gave his life so democracy could grow in Iraq. He is and will always be a hero to our entire country. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time. We hope and pray this tragedy is never again repeated, and that all of our remaining soldiers make it back safe and sound.”
