BOROUGH PRESIDENT AND NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF SMALL BUSINESS SERVICES HOST 2002 NEW YORK CITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT SUMMIT
Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz,
and Department of Small Business Services Commissioner Robert Walsh hosted
the 2002 New York City Economic Development Summit sponsored by JP Morgan
Chase, with contributing sponsorships by Consolidated Edison and Keyspan.
The Summit, subtitled Best Practices from Brooklyn and Beyond focused
on the unique development needs of the City’s diverse set of neighborhoods

of Shook, a perception design firm, and one of the nation’s top
experts in district planning and urban retail design delivered the afternoon’s

The summit, intended for a citywide audience of economic development professionals,

partnering with Mayor Bloomberg and the Department of Small Business Services
on this city-wide economic conference,” said Borough President Markowitz.
“And I'm particularly excited that its focus is on the best of Brooklyn’s
neighborhoods. The best place to do business is in Brooklyn. Brooklyn
is where the most innovative, creative and entrepreneurial things are
happening every single day."
“Our Summit brings together the tremendous talent we have in the
New York City economic development arena to think creatively about new
opportunities,” said Commissioner Walsh. “The Department of
Small Business Services is proud to produce today’s event since
small businesses play such a key role in our economic development. These
businesses are the source of new jobs, and they make the investments that
ensure our neighborhoods and business districts will be vibrant places
