BOROUGH PRESIDENT MARTY MARKOWITZ HELPS THOUSANDS OF BROOKLYNITES ENJOY A GREAT THANKSGIVING
Borough President Marty Markowitz gave away more than 600 turkeys,
1750 pounds of apples, 1700 pounds of collard greens, 1400 pounds of baking
potatoes and 1000 pounds of sweet potatoes to 50 local community groups
who will be feeding those less fortunate over the Thanksgiving holiday.
“The generosity on display here today demonstrates once again why
Brooklyn is the greatest place in the world,” said Borough President
Markowitz. “Some of us need help, some of us can help, but the bottom
line in Brooklyn is that we always help each other. This food that was
so graciously donated by HealthPlus, Fulton Street Mall and the Korean-American
Brooklyn Association will help feed thousands of Brooklynites during the
Thanksgiving holiday. I also want to thank the many Brooklyn community
groups who will be preparing all of these terrific Thanksgiving meals.
Your devotion to helping others captures the spirit of this special time
of the year. I want to wish everyone a healthy and happy holiday season.”
HealthPlus, Fulton Street Mall and the Korean-American Brooklyn Association,
NY. Inc. graciously donated all of the food that was given away.
“We are so pleased to be able to be able to give back to the community
that has entrusted us with their health care,” said HealthPlus Executive
Director Thomas Early.
“During this festive time of the holiday season, The Fulton Mall
Improvement Association and the Fulton Mall businesses are happy to join
Borough President Markowitz to help brighten Thanksgiving Day for so many
people,” said Fulton Street Mall Improvement Association Chairman
George Silva. “The gift of giving is one of the many ways to give
thanks for the community’s patronage to the Mall over the years.
This holiday food distribution has become a special Thanksgiving tradition
for the Fulton Mall Association since 1994.”
"We at the Korean American Brooklyn Association are so pleased to
be able to provide food for the needy at this time. We hope everybody
in Brooklyn has a great holiday season,” said Korean-American Brooklyn
Association, NY. Inc Chairman James Park.
Some of the community groups receiving the donations include Catholic
Charities, Central Churches of Brooklyn, Church Women United, Crown Heights
Service Center, Faith, Hope & Charity Day Care Center, Hazel Brooks
Senior Center, James United Methodist Church and the PTA Board of MS 340.
