On December 11th, Borough President Marty Markowitz joined Mayor Michael
Bloomberg and Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez at the grand opening of the
state-of-the-art Brooklyn Chinese Family Health Center (BCFHC), a five-story,
4,000 square foot health center located in the midst of the largest Chinese
population in Brooklyn. It is a satellite of Lutheran Family Health Centers
and was made possible through the Primary Care Development Corporation.
“I want to thank the leadership of Lutheran Medical Center and
the Primary Care Development Corporation for their vision and commitment
to providing comprehensive and culturally competent health care to Brooklyn’s
rapidly growing Chinese-American community,” said Borough President
Markowitz. “This new, state-of-the-art, Chinese family health center
has everything. It is conveniently located, has extensive hours of operation
that accommodate busy families, and a fully bi-lingual staff.”
BCFHC offers primary and dental services for the whole family. It is
open weekdays, evenings and weekends. At full operation, the Center expects
to provide more than 20,000 visits annually. It will also offer assistance
in applying for health insurance including Medicaid, Family Health Plus,
Child Health Plus and Prenatal Health Care Assistance Program.
The Borough President took a tour of the facility and posed with a number
of its employees.
